The red oak & rock maple used in the making of our Trugs & other wooden~wares are from our own, local, sustainably managed woodlands. We consider living & working within a balanced ecosystem an important piece of Fernwood Cottage's philosophy. For example, we coppice our trees, which is an ancient form of woodland management allowing for more new trees to grow than were originally there.

It was always our dream to "own" the entire process for making our wooden~wares. Fernwood Cottage, our off-grid homestead, allows us to do just that. We sustainably harvest, then mill, then dry, shape, & stock our own local hardwoods. Kevin then takes that wood & turns it into beautiful, practical working cottageware for your everyday use. Woodworking as a craft doesn't always start out very glamorously. It's often dirty, hard work: kitchens turn into drying areas, workshop floors are littered with shavings, & hands are calloused & rough.
But, throughout the entire process, we are grateful to our customers, our supporters, our community, our family, & mostly to God for the great joy of creating Fernwood Cottagewares.

The cold weather in Maine is perfect for baking.
Our Kitchen Tools stand up to daily use, but look beautiful doing it.
PLEASE NOTE: It is still too cold for steam-bending, therefore, we stop Trug making until Spring. You will be able to put yourself on the Trug Pre-Order list, however, & we will fill your order first thing once we can get back outside! Thanks for your patronage.
